Of Books and Unicorns

Just some thoughts from yesterday, as I meandered through Bookman's Alley and had coffee with my dearest Dawn.

-I have a set of 102 year-old encyclopedias that are absolutely amazing, yet cannot be sold. The print is still completely clear and the maps are really amazing, the leather is old and dry so the bindings need a bit of work, but the demand for old encyclopedias is rather non-existant. The question now becomes do I find someplace to donate them to? An antique dealer or the people at that huge bookstore in Quincy? Do I keep them, maybe getting them fixed up as I come across the extra $100 or so to afford it? Do I throw them away? Is anyone else interested in them? *sigh* So many questions so few answers...

-I wish I had the time and money to spend my days behind a camera or in a darkroom. I wish I could be like Edward Weston and the rest of the Weston clan, but particularly Edward, and take gorgeous black and whites like them.

-If I had any extra money I would have bought the hard-cover copy (I believe it was 1st edition, as well) of Marguerite Henry's Born to Trot without hesitation.

-Unicorns still amaze me and enthrall me. So beautiful and magnificent! I wish I had a unicorn...

-Sometimes I think I am a 5 year-old trapped in the body of a 16 year-old, yet has been living on this Earth for 22 years...

I'll be second in line for the encyclopedias (or cyclopedias, as the case may be)--one day when I have a semi-permanent place, they'd look awesome on the bookshelf. Oh wait, but you're going to move with me anyway. :-p

Lovely seeing you this week.

Yes, Maggen. The card was one of my cemetary angels. One of my new favorites. I hope to soon scan in some pics for a photo journey of her discovery... It's interesting, to say the least...

Love and miss you, my dearest!

Oh, and to clarify, it's an estimated $100 PER VOLUME to fix up the 'cyclopedias... Meaning about $1200 that I need for student loans and car payments... *sigh* Where is my rich husband?

You're cute and in prime territory--go stalk the local law, business, or med school. Or better yet, figure out where the med residents and MBAs hang out. :-p
